With this donation, Interim Director Elizabeth Alexander says the library hopes to enhance the Writer’s Exhibit, a literary expo of Greenville’s most storied authors. As a stop on the American Queen Steamboat’s Mississippi River cruise, the Writer’s Exhibit attracts thousands of visitors seeking the roots of Greenville’s literary fathers.
The funds for this donation were generated from last year's Delta Hot Tamale Festival, an event that highlights, promotes, and celebrates regional artists, musicians, authors, and southern food vendors. A recent economic impact study of the Delta Hot Tamale Festival shows that this event injects approximately $5.2 million into the local market each year. This boost is generated by the nearly 25,000 attendees, of which over 17,000 of those attending were considered visitors to Greenville. The Delta Hot Tamale Festival is one of many programs Main Street Greenville produces each year in an effort to promote and advance the revitalization efforts of downtown Greenville. Main Street Greenville recognizes the importance of preserving our rich literary culture and is proud to help the Percy Library maintain that legacy. |
